On 21st January 2026, the Srikiran-Shah Family Paediatric Eye Car Centre was inaugurated, thanks to a generous donation from Shah Family Foundation, Toronto Canada. This idea of Paediatric Eye Care Centre has been in the mind for the last 35 years and finally it became a reality this year.
We thank Shah Family Foundation for their quick response and the financial support to complete the construction of 6,500 sq. ft. building. The land for the building has been provided by Sankurathri Foundation.
The building was inaugurated by very prominent public figure, Brahmasri Chaganti Koteswara Rao garu. After the inauguration, he complemented the donor of the building and promised to do his role in creating the awareness about the need to examine all the children to prevent avoidable blindness in them.
Through this building, Srikiran Institute of Ophthalmology can provide eye care services to ten million population because there are no affordable, equitable and quality eyecare providers for children in this region. We are very much excited about this new development in the history of Srikiran Institute of Ophthalmology.
So far, we could provide eye care services to about 4.5 million out-patients and restored eyesight to over 3,60,000 people through operation. The most remarkable feature of this program is, almost 85% of the surgeries are provided free of cost to poor and needy.

These services to the poor and needy were possible only because of benevolent donors from St. John’s to Vancouver Island, four projects through the matching grants from Canadian International Development Agency, Ottawa Eye Institute and few more international organizations and volunteers. We are grateful for all of them for making this possible.
In conclusion, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the Shah Family Foundation for making my dream come true after 35 years.
Dr. Chandrasekhar Sankurathri
