Introduction

Since 1992, Sarada Vidyalayam has been a beacon of hope and opportunity for children from rural and economically disadvantaged families around Kakinada and Andhra Pradesh. Founded in memory of Sarada — the young daughter of the Dr. Sankarathri — the school was established with the belief that education should never be a privilege only for those who can afford it.

Sarada Vidyalayam delivers a full-fledged education (grades 1 through 10) according to the state syllabus, and is currently serving approximately 200 students. The school’s commitment goes far beyond academics, with each student’s potential nurtured through a broad, value-based curriculum that includes arts, crafts, music, dance, drama, yoga, and more. In addition to primary and high school instruction, a vocational school provides much-needed job skills to unemployed youth in the region.

The children of the school have done very well academically as well as in extracurricular activities. The school has been formally recognized for its achievements and designated as a model school in the district.

Removing Barriers

We understand that for many families, education can mean extra expenses. To ensure no child is left behind, Sarada Vidyalayam provides — at essentially no cost to parents — everything needed for a child’s schooling and wellness:

  • Textbooks, school bags, shoes, and uniforms
  • Safe transportation to and from school for children living in remote areas
  • Nutritious midday meals and afternoon milk — often the only regular meal for children from under-resourced homes
  • Regular medical check-ups and medicines, ensuring physical health is never a barrier to learning
  • Scholarships to help students pursue higher education.

Because of this holistic support, families don’t have to choose between survival and education, and children are provided with a stable, caring environment to learn and grow.

More Than a School

Sarada Vidyalayam isn’t just about grades and exams. It’s a vibrant community where students develop creativity, confidence and moral grounding. Through extracurriculars like gardening, art, dance, drama and craft-work, children discover talents, build discipline, and gain a strong sense of self-worth.

Over the decades, the school’s impact has been far-reaching. The school has been formally recognized for its achievements and designated as a model school in the district.

Many students have gone on to higher education or employment — breaking cycles of poverty, child labour and limited opportunity. For numerous families, Sarada Vidyalayam has opened doors that once seemed closed forever.

A Promise of Equal Opportunity

Sarada Vidyalayam stands for more than just free education — it stands for dignity, hope, and equal opportunity. It shows that with compassion, support and commitment, rural children can rise, thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.

Because when a child learns, an entire community becomes stronger.
